(Updated 11/8/2012)
Welcome new visitors from Pinterest! I am so happy to have you here and love all the great feedback! If you have any questions about this project, please see the updates at the end of this post or read through the comments section. If you still have any unanswered questions, please feel free to email me and I will get back to you as soon as possible! Thanks again! Sabby
This post may seem a little tardy in its timing, however many of the recipients of these homemade gifts are also readers of my lil’ ol’ blog. Didn’t want to spoil the gift giving.
Neither of the projects were novel techniques. They were inspired by several creative ladies and have been in my “To Try” folder for some time.
First up…
Glass Marble Magnet Sets
These little beauties can be made a variety of ways and the variations are endless. I found the tutorials at Not Martha and DIY Life to be extremely thorough and helpful.
The basic idea is pretty simple and you need the following supplies:
- pretty patterned paper – thicker is a better
- flat-bottomed glass marbles – the ones in the floral department at Michael’s
- E-6000 glue
- circular paper punch
- strong round magnets
Use paper punch to cut out circles of chosen paper. Attach paper circles to marbles using E-600 glue. Let dry for an hour. Attach marbles to magnets with glue. Let dry and enjoy! Of course, you can visit the tutorials at Not Martha and DIY Life for much more comprehensive instructions.
For packaging, I used an idea that I found at Madigan Made. Many of the tutorials I read suggested using metal tins, but I couldn’t find any and thought this idea was pretty frugal and cute.
For the packaging you’ll need: treat bags, heavy card stock, small washers, staples, glue and labels.
I glued the washers to the card stock:
Attached the finished magnets, placed them into the treat bag and found coordinating card stock to seal the tops of the bags.
Put a staple through the bag and both papers:
And finished them off with a label to cover up the staple.
Glass Pendant Necklaces
When I first came across this idea at Simply Modern Mom, I knew I just had to give this project a try. Again, SO MANY OPTIONS!!!
I followed Simply Modern Mom’s tutorial pretty much word for word, down to using wax paper on my work surface. Worked perfectly!
First, I cleaned up my glass tiles. ![]()
Then I picked out several different papers that I deemed “wearable”.
I couldn’t find “Diamond Glaze” but this “Paper Glaze” worked out fine. ![]()
Attached the paper to the tiles using the Paper Glaze:
After drying, I sealed the backs of the pendants with another layer of Paper Glaze.
I let that dry overnight before attaching my bails with E-6000.
I let the finished pendants sit overnight before moving them.
Here are a few examples of my finished necklaces:![]()

All wrapped up and ready for gifting!
***UPDATE***: (11/26/11) I’ve had a lot a e-mails recently regarding where to purchase glass tiles, bails and ball chain necklaces for making this craft. I bought all of the items through Sun & Moon Craft Kits. They also sell the Diamond Glaze. This store used to be through Etsy, but not anymore. I've changed the link to their new site. The seller is wonderful, the product was perfect and shipping was fast. Hope that helps you out!
So, that’s the extent of my crafty gifting this year. Both projects were fairly simple and the recipients loved them all. Thanks again to Not Martha, DIY Life, Madigan Made, and Simply Modern Mom for their awesome inspiration and tutorials!
***UPDATE***: (11/8/12) Just wanted to give you all a better idea of exactly which items I ordered from Sun & Moon Crafts. Let me know if you still have questions! Thanks again for all of the overwhelmingly wonderful feedback on this project. Honestly, I wear my pendants several times a week and think its just such a great gift for others and for yourself!
Items purchased from Sun & Moon Crafts:
- 7/8" inch Square Glass Shapes
- Elegant Rectangles
- Silver Ball Chains (This not my personal favorite chain, but a great way to give these as a gift inexpensively. I often use my own sterling snake chain instead)
- Sterling Silver Bails
I’m linking this post up to the below parties! Check them out for some fabulous inspiration!

Both of these projects are wonderful and beautifully presented. I'm sure the recipients loved them.
ReplyDeleteI love the necklaces!! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteUMMMMM.... ARE YOU KIDDING ME??
ReplyDeleteTHESE ARE AMAZING. I've book marked your page and will probably be doing these projects soon! :)

ReplyDeleteso cute! I really loved the pendants
ReplyDeleteLove these pandants! I am addicted to making them myself! How brilliant! I am totally borrowing the magnet packaging idea!
ReplyDeleteWhere can you find the glass tile? Any hardware store? Or do they sell it at Michaels as well? Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteI have been searching the entire net for how to attach my magnets to the cardstock, and now ive finally found it! thank you so much the washer idea is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteemma x
I just love the pendants...they are so beautiful...I have to try this. Thanks for the tutorial....= )
ReplyDeleteThese are great! I've been wanting to make the necklaces but can't find the glass tile anywhere... where can I find it? Thanks!!
ReplyDeletewww.cleverfusion.blogspot.com
You did a great job!!! I make these for my custom beach writings, only I attach the bails before sealing the backs. Sun & Moon also makes a great product that is JUST like Diamond Glaze.
ReplyDeleteYou can check out my necklaces at www.namesonthejerseyshore.com
I was wondering about the glass tiles and the necklaces - source? Thanks, great job!
ReplyDeleteStacey
Ok, where do I find the glass tiles locally ?? I have a Michaels/Hobby Lobby/Joanns close to home - Please let me know here or email me ! Thanks ! mndf065@gmail.com !
ReplyDeleteI wasn't able to find these glass tiles at any local store and that is why I bought them through Sun & Moon Craft Kits via Etsy. The seller is wonderful, the product was perfect and shipping was fast. See the link in the "update" above. Hope this helps! Sabby
ReplyDeleteA note: The only place I have found to get Diamond Glaze is online at places like Amazon, eBay, etsy, and of course, diamondglaze.com.
ReplyDeleteBut it would be a lot easier to walk into Hobby Lobby and grab some Aleene's Paper Glaze!! :D
I also had to order all of my tiles, bails and chains online, too. I will check out your source! Sounds great! Thanks for this awesome post!
What size tiles did you use? I looked on Sun&Moon but she has so many sizes I was confused. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is going to try this out for Christmas gifts for all her friends. Where did you get the chain necklaces for the best price?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your idea. You've inspired us!
I just found you via Pinterest. I have made the glass magnets before, but never thought to package them like you did to send off for gifts. I've never made the glass tile pendants, but it's something on my list! Thanks for the great tutorial!
ReplyDeleteoh...the pendants are amazing.....thanks so much for the tutorial...u made it really easy...i m deffinately going to try...thank u,,,,
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to share that I found a mat full of domino-shaped, clear glass for pendants at...wait for it...Home Depot! A mat of about 50 for $8.95. You just have to clean off the adhesive, and, voila! You have a TON of clear glass pieces waiting to become cool pendants.
ReplyDeleteDid I miss the response on where to find the chains to hang them on...???
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great blog
ReplyDeleteChristmas Gift Ideas
I was so excited about the glass tiles at Home Depot that I went right out. I didn't have any trouble getting the adhesive off but I have no idea how to remove the paper backing. . .any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting the link to my website! If anyone ever needs any help with a project, you can call or email me also, my contact information is on my website: http://www.sunandmooncraftkits.com XO, Gina
ReplyDeleteSaw this idea on Pinterest and ordered from you (Sun and Moon) immediately. My tiles, bails, chains and glaze was here by the weekend!!! Awesome!!!
DeleteDon't buy from this person unless you like paying for damaged, unusable goods.
DeleteSorry you had such a bad experience. I've ordered from Sun and Moon a few times and had no issues. Just sharing my experience and just to be clear, I have not received anything from Sun and Moon in return for my review. Have you found any other sources for these products? If so, I'd be happy to share!
DeleteI couldnt wait to order mine online so I am goin to try mosaic clear tiles and see if that works. I will let you guys know :)
ReplyDeleteGloria
Thanks for posting this on Pinterest. Just ordered all my supplies from Sun and Moon. For about $30 I have enough to make all the ladies necklaces, as well as my girl friends. LOVE LOVE LOVE:) Thanks again:)
ReplyDeleteCourtney
Wow. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThese are really pretty. Thanks for all the info. :]
ReplyDeleteI love these magnets!
ReplyDeleteJust received my supplies from Sun and Moon and they are perfect. Great prices, quick shipping and nice products.
ReplyDeleteI also bought some tiles from Home Depot and haven't figured out a way to get the white backing off. I soaked them in a variety of solutions with no luck.
Thanks for the great tutorial!
The link you posted in suspended..Is there another site to order this stuff from?
ReplyDeleteI was wondering how many days it took to get your supplies? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteQuick question - I was looking on the Sun and Moon site to purchase my supplies and don't know which chains to purchase - the 1.5mm or the 2.4mm. Which did you buy for your project?
ReplyDeleteLove the necklaces. I bought everything I need to make 20 of them from the website you recommended BUT the necklace itself. The silver one you show is so nice - where did you get that??
ReplyDeleteKristy
jnelson and Kristy - I purchased my necklaces through Sun and Moon as well. They were the 24 Inch 2.4mm ball chain necklaces. When the shop was on Etsy they sold them in lots of 20.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to try making these little gems.I wish I had found your page sooner, these are great ideas for Christmas. Will work on these next year, what a nice surprise they will be.
ReplyDeleteI've done these, I buy my glass and diamond glaze from Annie Howes on Etsy. You can also buy a starter pack just to try out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great tutorial. Your necklaces turned out beautifully. It looks like you used the aanraku bails from Sun & Moon? -- I just wondered which size yours are, the small, medium, or large? Thanks!
ReplyDeletewill mod podge work as the glaze?
ReplyDeleteI love this idea and am ready to get started...I found some glass tiles at home depot...they are 1 inch squares but besides the sticky mesh on the back they look to be painted....should i take them back or is there a way to remove the white paint or whatever that is on the back? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL! Is it really this easy? Even for a non-crafty person like me!? I will give it a try and let you know! Any luck with the Home Depot tiles? I would love to know how to do it more quickly than to wait for the stuff to be shipped.
ReplyDeleteTry goof off to get the paper backing off the tiles
ReplyDeleteTry goof off to get the paper backing off the tiles
ReplyDeletei have bought diamond glaze at Jo-Anns before. I am not sure if they are still selling it out not
ReplyDeleteHave you tried putting a photo? I would love to put my children's photo; kind of like a locket.
ReplyDeleteThanks
FINALLY! I found you through Pintrest. I"ve been wanting to make these but could never find a source for the glass. Merci!
ReplyDeleteV
So Cute!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this post!! I am a jewelery maker, artist, and writer. I do beading, but I usually purchase pendant sorts of elements. I am so stoked to try this, and use my own original artwork for the paper :0)
ReplyDeleteVery fun! I've got to try this! Also, thanks for the helpful links.
ReplyDeleteI loved these and your straightforward instructions. I am going to make heart magnets as Valentine gifts. Thank you so much
ReplyDeleteI think it would be neat to put a photo of loved one and tie with sheer narrow ribbon. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteI am an alphabet photography photographer. I just contacted sun and moon for supplies. I'm gonna try these with my photography. The woman from Sun and Moon was so helpful and their website really helpful with their tutorials. I ordered my supplies and they shipped the same day! Impressed
ReplyDeleteAnyone try this with a photo? I did and it turned colors. I did black and white and on glossy paper.
ReplyDeleteFor photos you need to copy the photo onto paper. I had a friend make me a bowl full of these (just the baubles) I keep them on my coffee table. Have them from all ages of my granchildren. Love Them. She did some as magnets also, put them on a silver tray. The tray has magnets and is on my fridge. Great way to show off my grandkids. :)
ReplyDeletewhich size bail did you use for these pendants? Small or medium?
ReplyDeleteI had the same question as Shelly.. which size bail did you use? & Which style? Aanraku for .47 or the Vintage ones in Shiny Silver for .16? Just curious! Thanks so very much!!
ReplyDeleteI love the ideas for both of these projects. I will definitely try them.
ReplyDeleteOMG you are such a life saver with the ideas on packaging! I've been trying to find something that was a frugal and attractive way to package my items for FOREVER! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI just placed my order & believe me when I say, I cannot wait to receive my items so I can get started on making these beautiful pendants & magnets! I've been searching all over for the tiles, so thanks for the help on finding them! I'm also going do photos...I've been told the key is to print them on heavy card stock. Thanks so much for the idea! Happy crafting!
ReplyDeletethis is so inspiring!! i love the end result ....will definately try it....thanks for the posting:)
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI really want to make the glass pendant necklaces for my daughter's birthday. The original blog you linked to is gone...can you give me further directions please? Thanks!
Just found you through Pinterest.... and LOVE these crafts!! Already bookmarked & can't wait to try this out!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your page. Thank you so much for sharing. Your step by step instructions with pictures make it so easy, even for a beginner like myself. I will be doing both of these projects. Love these ideas and wouldn't have thought of it on my own. Again, thank you so much for sharing. P. S. I plan to use pictures of my grand children for mine as well.
ReplyDeleteIf you are trying to get the stuff off the back of the glass tiles from Home Depot, the easiest (and cheapest) way to get them off is "Goo Gone". Works on everything from gum to paint! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteLovely idea,Thanks for sharing your creativity!!
ReplyDeletehow cool.
ReplyDeleteI go to a craft camp in Sept for a week we make craft kits & charge a fee teach it. This will be a keeper the ladies will love this. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLOVE these craft ideas! So easy yet so impressive. Thanks for the great ideas!
ReplyDeleteyour tutorial has been by far the easiest one to understand.... can't wait to make these adorable pieces!!! thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it any hints on where to find the supplies?
ReplyDeleteI love this idea and they turned out beautiful!!! Thanks for an very inspiring summer project.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to try these for friends and family! I'm thinking they would be perfect for the 60+ friends/staff at my school! Thanks so much for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteI have done the magnets before and put them in little tins to present as gifts....think Altoids.
ReplyDeleteGood idea with the Altoid tins. *files for later*
Deleteok, I see where to get the supplies, and you great directions too. What I don't see is 'how much did you charge for them' ? How much do you have in them in money and time and what is your profit margin. They look professional and sweet at the same time. Madre del Cinco
ReplyDeleteAwesome tutorial! Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMay be one day I'll turn my digital collage sheets into pendants...
In the meanwhile other can enjoy them here http://www.etsy.com/shop/KARTINKAshop
I've made magnets but not with such pretty paper. May have to try the project again. LOVING the necklaces though
ReplyDeleteIs there something special about the e6000 glue? Is there any other substitute for it?
ReplyDeleteGretchen
I love this project. I bought rectangle and heart shaped tiles. They are so cute. The hardest thing about this project, to me, is cutting the paper just right. I found that glueing the paper first and then cutting around the shape works best for me.
ReplyDeleteI loved your tutorial. I used slightly different materials (it was what I could find at the time and for cheap). Here is my post: http://cydiy.blogspot.com/2012/06/glass-marble-gems.html
ReplyDeleteHow long does it take to dry??
ReplyDeleteHey. I LOVE those cute little pendants. Can you also make rings? If you can please add it on here. Thanks
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Can't wait to get my items together to give this a try. I already bead jewelry but needed something new. My daughters fiancée just graduated Air Force boot camp. Can't wait to turn some of my pictures of him into necklaces and magnets for her and his family. Thanks so much. I'm inspired again!!!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I was looking for some fun ideas for my daughters bday party. What a great gift/goodie for all the girls to leave the sleepover with.
ReplyDeleteThe first Monday in December I host a "Girlfriends Christmas Party" at my house. There are usually between 40-45 in attendance. I never let them leave without a "prize" but with that many "girls" I am always on the lookout for economical gifts. Thanks.
ReplyDeletesoooo many wonderful comments, I cannot wait to see all websites. Since everyone here seems to know so much, does anyone have any suggestions aas to where I might buy unpaintaed Christmas balls? I want to paint scenes on them, and cannot find any.... thanks!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am in South Africa, and I think Superglue might be the same as E6000 glue ?.?.?.?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is pretty much super glue.
DeleteIt's actually not like superglue. Superglue is really really thin. E6000 is much thicker like liquid nails.
DeleteI can't wait to try this. I think I might do some as party favors for my little girls b-day party. Great teacher gifts also! Thanks so much everyone for sharing ideas & info.
ReplyDeleteI got my stuff in today! Very quick delivery :) Can't wait to get started on these necklaces!!! Shout out to Sun & Moon Crafts
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tutorial.
ReplyDeleteI have three Granddaugthers...always looking for spring break and summer projects..this is one I think they will really enjoy making. Saw this once before and wanted to try it out thankyou for reminding me and taking your time with the directions...I found them very clear and easy to follow. Again thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI have just tried my first 3 and not really good at the glueing thing just yet. is there a trick to it? What should the backs look like. Getting ready for some crafts for older grandchildren while camping.
Thanks much Connie
Thanks much Connie
Found your link on Pinterest. I'm throwing a craft party in a few weeks, and this is first on our list. I just ordered the supplies from Sun & Moon...can't wait! Thanks for a great tutorial! -Tracy
ReplyDeleteYour necklaces are just beautiful! I'm so excited to try these. Thank you for all of the purchase info for the supplies as well!
ReplyDeleteI ordered from Sun and Moon and got damaged merchandise. Multiple emails and calls have been ignored. I feel ripped off. Just my experience. Beware.
ReplyDeleteI love those magnets!!!!! I really wanted to make some, but I could only find 3/4 inch magnets. The magnets are slightly bigger than the clear gems. What size magnets do you use? What size gems? Because I think I got the right gems. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love the magnet idea. I have already made over 300 magnets. It gives me something to do and it is so easy. I bought my flat marbles by the bag full at the dollar store and printed off pics with repeated patterns to work with. I got round magnets( 52 for 6 bucks) at wally world and i just used watered down elmers glue(poor womans hodgepodge lol) to stick them together. I have had fun making them and choosing the patterns and colors. Thank you for the great idea.
ReplyDeleteI have several of these necklaces I've purchased as a fundraiser. I absolutely love them. But my problem is that after I've worn it about 3 times, it gets very sticky and leaves a yucky residue on my skin where I've worn it. The necklaces are starting to look really grungy on the back now.
ReplyDeleteHow can this be eliminated?
I would think that gluing a small piece of felt to the back would keep the natural salt, sweat and oils on skin from affecting the back.
DeleteLove love love....and the sun & moon website is cheap...super excited and can't wait to start making these!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tutorial. This was the first link I really intend to make that I discovered from my wanderings on pinterest.
ReplyDeleteI have been gathering my supplies and have had wonderful interaction with Sun and Moon Crafts. Their merchandise is a great quality, their personal attention is top-notch, and their suggestions and answers to my questions have been spot on.
I wholeheartedly recommend them as a great "hand-holding" source for not only the supplies but also the helpful advice for a newbie like myself. Such personal attention is a rarity these days...unexpected but so appreciated.
great project
ReplyDeleteAm about to try the pendant, but with a twist. Using photographs of loved ones and my children and their pet!
ReplyDeleteExcellent idea!!
DeleteFabulous! Am doing the pendant but with a slight twist. Using photos of family, loved ones and even my kids with their beloved dog 'Bella'!
ReplyDeleteJacks, what are you using as paper for the photos? I am getting streaks on the photos even tho the paper glaze dries clear, it streaks? Are you using photo paper or regular paper? Thanks
DeleteI just bought the craft set and it came in the mail yesterday! So Happy and I can't wait to make my family some presents!Thank you for your easy tutorial and all of the link ups to the info. Having read all of them I am confident to get to makin' some necklaces:)
ReplyDeleteThe magnets I have made with the children for Christmas gifts to their parents. Homeroom mom here had to come up with something. And I have also made instead of magnets, I glued pushpins on the back. Makes a cute pin for your cork board.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post. Someone had found your blog and pinned it to pinterest; that's how I found it. Hopefully with luck mine will turn out atleast decent because I would like to sell them. I'm a full time college student in my first year so, I dont have a job. I'm fortunate enough to have parents who pay for my gas and food while I'm going to school. Even though I'm grateful, I don't have any money to spend on what I want not what I need. This would be a perfect way for some extra cash.
ReplyDeleteHi, I think your blog might be having browser compatibility
ReplyDeleteissues. When I look at your blog in Chrome, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer,
it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up!
Other then that, terrific blog!
My web page > Orange County area rug cleaning
My girls and I are hosting a homeschool Christmas Craft Fair where the kids sell items for $5 or less. I thought this would be perfect!! I hope it is as easy as it looks :) I just ordered up a bunch and hope we sell out to all the moms and kids that are shopping that night! My first Pinterest craft item to try!
ReplyDeleteThanks!!! I can't wait to do these with my daughters!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!! I can't wait do make these with my daughters!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to make the pendants. Just received the supplies today. Got tired of driving from place to place, searching the crafts stores, etc. In the wee hours of Monday I ordered everything I would need (except the ball chains which I purchased during a recent visit to Ft. Benning, GA) from ArtFire Company. Actually they came from a company out of Florida called Those Sweet Sensations. I ordered several different sizes of tiles. Out of about 100, not a single one was broken. I also ordered several glazes, one of which was to use on ink jet prints to keep them from bleeding. They also had jewelry bails and a majority of other craft items. I live near a craft factory outlet, and I was not able to find all these items there. With the price of gas, the shipping costs were less than what I would have spent for fuel.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering how to make a necklace with an old photo of my mum and me as a Christmas gift for my mum and now I found your tutorial on pinterest.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!!
So so so cute, thanks for sharing Bless You.....
ReplyDeleteWhat size tile squares and rectangles did you order for the necklaces? magnets? They look amazing!
ReplyDeleteThis would work fabulously for key chains too!! Great post!!
ReplyDeletewhat size bails did you use, small or med?? can one size work for smaller squre shape and the bigger one? thank you, ckatecarroll@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteThis is the perfect thing for my 8 yo to make for her classmates and teacher. Great idea. We both will love it.
ReplyDeleteFound you on Pinterest and had to make some of these magnets :) I got my projects confused and mod podged the paper to the marble -- do you think it matters?
ReplyDeleteI added this to my "6 weeks to christmas" blog post with a link to your tutorial :)
http://coconutxoxo.blogspot.com/2012/11/countdown-to-christmas-6-weeks-of-kid.html?m=1
I tried the packaging for the magnets, but it didn't stay pretty like yours. The magnets and washers are polarized or something because the magnets keep moving off center and going towards eachother so I end up with a giant magnet blob. What size washer did you use?
ReplyDeleteWhat size washers did you use for packaging? My magnets keep moving off center of the washers, and going to each other. I end up with a giant magnet blob!
ReplyDeletethis is a great idea for my 11 year old daughter to give her buds for christmas!!! wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love this project, thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI do think I will try to use my artworks instead of the papers and perhaps a ribbon instead of chain..
Smiles!
I like your idea of using ribbon! I think it will add an "elegant " look to your pendants ;)
DeleteHow wonderful of you to make this tut available in 2012...and with updates! Bless you!
ReplyDeleteHow do you attach the hook?
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous! Thanks so much for the tutorial. I'm sharing this on my FB page with a link back to this blog post =)
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful. Our 12 year old granddaughter is quite the artist. I know she'll see this in my Pinterest and want to make one for her mom's Christmas birthday! Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing. Our 12 year old granddaughter will see this in my Pinterest and I'm sure she'll want to make some for her mom's Christmas birthday. I have everything except the bales! Yes! You rock.
ReplyDeleteI use Scrabble tiles. The back side is the person's initial.
ReplyDeleteI really like these pendants. I am bound and determined to make these for Christmas but let me share a few mistakes that have been very time consuming and expensive. First of all the tiles from walmart DO NOT WORK!!! I have tryed every solution
ReplyDeleteincluding goo-gone, terpentine etc, That white backing will not come off no matter what u do. so here I am now with no time to order from sun and moon so i bought kits from Martha Stewart. They are called facets and come in many shapes. I'll let u know how it comes out.
Loved this! Found you on Pinterest and will definitely try this. I think it would make a sweet Valentine's necklace...or token gift for a party. Wow, so many options! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting, I have wondered how it works and you are correct looks way simple. The ball chains if you have a Ben Franklin store they sell the chains for $.99 each in colors. Also ebay you can order a good selection of ribbon necklaces, free shipping that work also.
ReplyDeleteI want to make some with printer ink is there a special thing I have to do in order to glue it if I use sun and moon glaze? I want to make a MM on a piece of paper from my printer and use that under the glass, was not sure if the ink would run or not. Any help would be great. thank you
ReplyDeleteThank you for these wonderful ieas! People just can't get enough of homemade items, especially when they turn out so professional looking! Hopefully I'll see more of your ideas to try!
ReplyDeleteLove the creativity in packaging the magnets. Great tutorial. Can't wait to try these for the girls in my life. Thanks so much!

I found your blog via pinterest, loved the necklaces, ordered from Sun & Moon and gave you credit for the referral!
ReplyDeleteBoth of these projects are great. I think I just found the wedding favors for my daughter's up coming wedding. :-)
ReplyDeleteMy sister made her own version of the magnets for my birthday last year. She created mini drawings of some of childhood memories and attached them in the same manner you mentioned above. A fabulously personal gift!
ReplyDeleteMy sister made her own version of these magnets as a birthday gift for me last year. She drew mini pictures of various childhood memories... One of our pet, etc... It was a fabulously personal gift that it totally useable!
ReplyDeleteIf you want to use inkjet prints, then you'll need to use Glamour Seal which you can find here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/AnnieHowes It's an all-in-one adhesive and seal to prevent your printed images from smearing.
ReplyDeletewould these project work with photos also?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips on this project. They are so beautiful...
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this information.they are beautiful....
ReplyDeleteHi I found you through Pinterest! Thank you for the great tutorial. I have a question...I spoke with a lady at Sun and Moon. She says that the Diamond Glaze never really dries, that it remains sticky. I asked..."sticky enough to pick up sweater fuzz?" She said "Yes". I am wondering if your pendants felt sticky when you sealed the backs with the Diamond Glaze?
ReplyDeleteJenn
Thanks so much for posting those awesome ideas! Does anyone know anything about working with glass tile in toronto? I love glass tile, and would love to get some great ideas for working with it!
ReplyDeleteOMG! I am hooked! I used the little photos that you sometimes get on a card when you order prints such as from shutterfly. I recently got married and had a bunch of those little pics.Couldn't just throw them away. Then I saw this on Pinterest also, bad but good news! I have made so many "open faced lockets" with this idea.I bought all my supplies from Sun and Moon Crafts web site! Awesome! My Mother in Law cried when I gave her one.
ReplyDeleteI love your pendant designs. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletecan't wait too try this with some photos my day just posted of family from the 1800s...
ReplyDeleteas far as removing the white off the home dept tiles, i would suggest also getting a gallon of adhesive remover, the kind that you use when taking up carpet and cleaning the glue up so you can lady tile or hardwood, etc. its non toxic and I've even used it to get deodorant stains out of clothes, remove dried paint from brushes, and take glue off just about anything it shouldn't be on. i recommend mixing up the solution however strong you want it, and letting the tiles soak overnight. if you have any questions on it, my email is krazygirl28@hotmail.com, just make sue it is recognizable from spam if you do email me... thanks for the great tutorial...going to home depot after work tomorrow....

Thanks SO much for including what you ordered from Sun & Moon. When I went to the website I was overwhelmed.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if anyone had tried using the marbles that are used to make the magnets as small pendants??? And if so how did they turn out??? This is precious!!! I literally have thousands of the marbles!!! Great great great idea!!!!

ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! I'm trying to make some homemade pieces for my best friend's wedding. I bought fancy-colored diamonds and some other supplies. I think I'm going to take some inspiration from this. =)
